OUR NEWEST VENTURE · 2026

Mererani, Manyara — Tanzanite

Mererani is the only place on Earth where Tanzanite is found, and in 2026 Ruby International became part of its story. Our entry into this celebrated gemstone marks the most significant milestone in our growth since Mahenge itself.

Mererani is worked through underground mining, a reflection of how the deposit sits in the ground and of the specialized care this gemstone demands. As at every site, our approach is anchored in responsible extraction, strict compliance with Tanzania’s gemstone mining regulations, and investment in the surrounding community.

Past Projects

Our Journey

Not every site we have worked at remains part of our active portfolio, but each left its mark on the company we are today. From seasonal operations in Ruvuma to an early venture across the Kenyan border, these are the sites that shaped our judgment, our discipline, and the values that now guide every mine we operate.

2017 – 2022

Tunduru, Ruvuma

Sapphire (blue & yellow) · Alexandrite · Green Tourmaline

Our seasonal Tunduru and Muhuhesi operation taught us to work with patience and precision across a short, unforgiving three-to-four-month dry season each year, when the ground itself dictated our calendar.

2017 – 2022

Voi, Kenya

Tsavorite

An early-stage Tsavorite investment that pushed our reach beyond Tanzania’s borders for the first time and sharpened our understanding of the wider East African gemstone trade.

2023 – 2025

Mwakijembe, Tanga

Tourmaline

An initial Tourmaline venture that proved out a district we would return to just a season later — this time in Kilindi District, in pursuit of Ruby.

2024 – 2026

Songea, Ruvuma

Another chapter of the same restless curiosity — an appetite for good ground, wherever it could be found responsibly.

We remain grateful to every community that hosted us at these sites, however briefly.
